What is Chain-link Fencing?

Chain-link fencing (also known as Chainwire, Chainmesh, or Cyclone Fencing) is a woven steel mesh used for boundary and security applications. It’s strong, cost-effective, and available in various coatings, wire diameters, and mesh sizes to suit everything from backyard fences to industrial compounds.

Common Uses

  • Residential: Boundary fencing, pet enclosures, pool areas
  • Commercial: Storage yards, car parks, industrial perimeters
  • Recreational: Tennis courts, cricket nets, schools, playgrounds
  • Security: Warehouses, substations, airports, correctional facilities

What are the options?

Selvedge

  • KK (Knuckle-Knuckle): Soft and safe edge — used in residential or low-risk applications
  • KB (Knuckle-Barbed): Top barbed for extra deterrent — popular in commercial fencing
  • BB (Barbed-Barbed): Full security option with barbs top and bottom

Diamond Pitch Sizes

Pitch Size (mm) - Typical Use

  • 60mm - Budget fencing, temporary fencing
  • 50mm - Standard for most commercial/residential use
  • 45mm - Tennis courts (stops ball pass-through)
  • 40mm - Cricket nets, sports impact fencing
  • 32mm - Golf course fencing
  • 25mm - Window screens, vermin barriers

Wire Gauge & Strength

  • 2.50mm (Light Duty): Temporary fencing, domestic use
  • 3.15mm (Heavy Duty): Recommended for permanent, high-impact applications like schools or industrial sites
  • 4.00mm (Extra Heavy Duty): High-security and correctional facility use

3.15mm offers 40% more strength and longer lifespan than 2.50mm.

Wire Diameter (Gauge)

  • 2.50mm (Light Duty): Temporary fencing, domestic use
  • 3.15mm (Heavy Duty): Recommended for permanent, high-impact applications like schools or industrial sites
  • 4.00mm (Extra Heavy Duty): High-security and correctional facility use

3.15mm offers 40% more strength and longer lifespan than 2.50mm.

Coating & Finish

  • Standard Galvanized (W02Z): Budget-friendly but shorter lifespan
  • Heavy Galvanized (W10Z): Longer-lasting, corrosion-resistant — meets AS2423 standards
  • PVC Coated: Protective and aesthetic — available in Black or Evergreen
  • Fusion Bonded: Highly durable coating for coastal or sporting applications (Black only)

Helpful Tips When Ordering

  • Measure fence height at the middle of the roll — not the peaks or valleys
  • Choose KB or BB selvedge if added deterrent or security is needed
  • Use heavy gauge wire for permanent or high-traffic applications
  • Confirm pitch size to match with gates, posts, or existing fencing
