This guide explains the different types of wire and cable used in fencing systems — including support cables, lacing wire, barbed wire, and razor wire — along with typical applications, installation considerations, and technical specifications
-
Helicoil Cable – 4.00mm
Helicoil cable is a 4.00mm diameter tensioned wire used to support chain-link fabric in rail-less fencing systems. Installed horizontally, it is strained tightly between terminal posts and secured to intermediate posts using 2.00mm lacing wire.
Typical Configuration:- Top wire: one half diamond below the top selvedge
- Bottom wire: one half diamond above the bottom selvedge
- Middle wire: evenly spaced between top and bottom
-
Plain Wire – 3.15mm
Plain wire is used as a twin double-twisted horizontal cable (3.15mm diameter). It forms a spiral tension pattern by looping alternate posts. This method creates structural tension to support chain-link mesh between posts.
Installation Tip: Never loop both strands around the same post — alternate sides for full spiral tensioning.
-
Lacing Wire – 2.00mm
2.00mm lacing wire is used to fasten chain-link fabric to other components. It is flexible and strong enough for consistent tying applications.
Common Uses:
- Lacing fabric to terminal posts
- Lacing to top and bottom rails
- Securing helicoil cable to intermediate posts
- Tying barbed wire to post tops
-
Tie Wire – 1.57mm
1.57mm tie wire is a thinner gauge wire typically used for:
- Securing chain-link fabric to horizontal cables
- General light-duty tie-offs in fencing systems
-
Barbed Wire
Used for added perimeter security, barbed wire is typically 1.57mm high-tensile with a reverse twist and spaced barbs every 100mm. It is installed above the main fencing line and tensioned between terminal posts.
Typical Configurat
- 3 rows at 150mm vertical spacing
- Top row starts 50mm down from post top
- Mounted through punched holes or notches at post tops
-
Razor Wire
Razor wire provides high-security fencing in correctional, military, and critical infrastructure environments. It is extremely difficult to climb or cut through and comes in two primary configurations:
Flat Loop Razor Wire
Available sizes: 760mm (20 loops), 550mm (70 loops), 470mm (45 loops),Designed to fit on top of existing fences or walls Effective for limited-space applications. Creates an anti-climb barrier when mounted above chain-link or brick
Concertina Razor WireCommon size: 550mm diameter (45 loops) continuous circular coils create dense, overlapping security barriers , Used for prisons, utility compounds, and secured industrial sites, Cannot be cut through using conventional tools

Netting Clips & Pliers
Netting clips are an alternative to lacing or tie wire. They are fastened using a handheld plier tool to connect mesh to cable wire at regular intervals.
Installation: Attach every 320mm (typically every 4th diamond in chain-link fabric)
- Clips fasten over both mesh and support cable
- Quick-install tool crimps clips securely
